Brazilian star Neymar recently made a remarkable confession while reflecting on his former team, Barcelona.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward has revealed how elated he is to be reunited with his friend and teammate from his Blaugrana days Lionel Messi in the French capital.
Speaking to Ronaldo Nazario on the Fenomenos Podcast, Neymar disclosed to his legendary compatriot that he had been eager to play with the Argentine again since he left the Camp Nou for a world-record transfer fee in 2017.
The 2011 FIFA Puskas Award winner seemingly even went as far as trying to force a move back to Catalonia in 2020, but is now happy Messi is with him in Paris.
"We're really good friends, Leo and me," the 2016 Olympic gold medallist said.
"Ever since Barcelona, we've built this friendship, a very strong one.
"So we started talking about playing together again last year, I mean, the year before that. I tried getting back to Barcelona. We tried everything, but it didn't work out.
"Then he got the chance of coming here and we were able to get him. I'm thrilled that he's here today.
"He's a friend that football has given me. We get along really well, both on and off the field. Now we're hoping to make history here in Paris Saint-Germain.
"We'll see what the future holds. We're working very hard."
During their time in Spain, the pair – along with Luis Suarez – won two LaLiga titles, three Copa del Rey trophies and a UEFA Champions League title together.
Dubbed "MSN", the trio exemplified attacking fluidity, and hold the record for the most goals scored by an attacking trio in Spain after their combined 122 goals in the 2014/15 campaign.
While Neymar, who suffered an ankle injury that kept him sidelined for a while, and Messi have not played much together so far this season, they were able to connect on the weekend when the Argentine assisted the PSG No. 10's goal in their 3-1 loss to Nantes.
