FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has added to his ever-growing list of accolades after claiming another Guinness World Record award for his goalscoring exploits. He headlines a list of no fewer than 11 footballers who became record holders for 2020.

Incepted in 1955, the Guinness World Records is an annual publication that lists world records both of "human achievements and the extremes of the natural world".
Messi, whose name already appears in the book of records for the most goals in a calendar year and the most goals in a single LaLiga season, added another passage to his name after receiving the world record for the most goals scored in LaLiga history.
The Argentine forward has netted on 420 occasions in Spain's top flight, 101 times more than second-placed Cristiano Ronaldo, and looks set to extend his record in the coming years.

Messi was one of a number of footballers to have added their names into the 2020 edition of the book, alongside Liverpool starlet Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose 12 assists last season was the most by a defender in a single Premier League season.
Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe holds the record for being the youngest player to be nominated for the Ballon d'Or at the age of 18 years and 293 days, while Sergio Aguero joins Alan Shearer as the player with the most hat-tricks in Premier League history, with 11 trebles to his name.
