When he was just 17 years old, Messi was given a chance in the Blaugrana's first team by manager Frank Rijkaard, who had some of the world's best players at the time at his disposal in Ronaldinho, Samuel Eto'o and Deco.
The Argentine played a small part in the team in his early years, but became a notable figure in the dressing room quickly, and not for his size or character, but for what he did out on the field.
Messi spent three years under the Dutch manager, with whom he formed a special bond before the boss was replaced by former Barca B team coach Guardiola. The forward, with plenty of experience despite his young age, developed into one of the world's best players under the Spaniard.

Scoring 211 goals and assisting a further 88 strikes in just 219 matches under Guardiola, Messi became recognised as not only one of the most dominant footballers on the globe, but to have ever kicked a ball.
Countless goals and trophies were enjoyed in what seemed like a perfect manager/player match, a relationship many still reminisce about today. Similar to Sir Alex Ferguson and Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi and Guardiola were seemingly meant to work together.
Messi also worked under the late Tito Vilanova in the 2012/13 season, but Jordi Roura took over as caretaker manager when Vilanova became ill. Gerardo Martino and Luis Enrique followed, before former Athletic Bilbao manager Ernesto Valverde was appointed to the club's hotseat in 2017.

The 32-year-old needs just for more strikes to bring up a century of goals under Valverde, who will become the third manager the Argentine has achieved that milestone under as a result.
