Breaking news in Spain has it that Josep Maria Bartomeu, who recently fell out with Lionel Messi, could be forced to step down after enough signatures were gathered to potentially remove him from his job as FC Barcelona president.
Barca President To Ask Messi To Take Wage Cut
Bartomeu could face a vote of no confidence after a motion of censure secured the required number of signatures to threaten his role as president.
The Evening Standard reported on Wednesday that the movement had gathered 90% of the necessary number of signatures, but RAC1 has now claimed that all 16 521 signatures have been received, which means a vote can now be forced.
The "Mes que una Mocio" platform was said to be launched two weeks ago by the club's socios, who have been unhappy with Bartomeu's running of the Blaugrana.
The club chief's most recent controversy came in the form of his long and public fallout with Barcelona's all-time record goalscorer Messi, who was desperate to leave the club to join Manchester City in this transfer window.
The Argentine eventually stood down from his fight with Bartomeu, whom he spoke out against in a tell-all interview with Goal.
Reports in Spain suggest that the Catalans have not acknowledged or made any public comment on the motion of censure, which will reportedly be presented at the club's offices on Thursday evening.
