African legend Didier Drogba has explained why he believes Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo deserves to win the FIFA Ballon d'Or.

The Portuguese attacker has won the prestigious accolade three times in the past eight years, with FC Barcelona's record goalscorer lifting the award on five occasions – more than any other player in history.
However, Ronaldo has been tipped to close that gap by Chelsea legend Drogba, who suggested that the Portugal captain's 2016 European Championship triumph could aid his chances of winning a fourth Ballon d'Or.
"I played against Cristiano in the Champions League final in 2008; he won with Manchester United against Chelsea," the Ivorian told AS.
"He is a true leader and he deserves the Ballon d'Or for the great work he has done for Real Madrid and Portugal.
"Although he could not play the whole Euro 2016 final, he was the biggest reason that his team got there."

Ronaldo was voted the world's best player for the first time in 2008, and claimed the prize again in 2013 and 2014.
