During his time at Manchester United, Ronaldo quickly became one of the world's biggest talents, mainly for his efforts on the wing.
The Portugal captain joined Real in 2009, and in his early days there he operated from the left wing, but over the course of the years he has changed his style slightly.
Ronaldo has now explained the adjustment to striker, citing goals as the main reason.
"I'm different now, I'm more a penalty-box player, not so much on the wing," he told Marca.
"Because you score more goals from there, so I changed my position slightly.
"It's been a natural change and it's certainly kept me happy."
The 30-year-old was recently awarded his fourth Golden Shoe award, becoming the first player to win it more than three times.
