Cristiano Ronaldo has been nominated for yet another prestigious award – and is the only footballer among the final six nominees – while South Africa's Wayde van Niekerk was nominated in a different category.

The Portuguese could become the first footballer to lift the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award, which is voted for by a panel of professional sports editors, writers and broadcasters.
He will be up against basketball duo Stephen Curry and LeBron James, athletes Usain Bolt and Mo Farah, and tennis star Andy Murray.
No footballer has won the main category of the Laureus World Sports Awards since its inception in 1999, while Novak Djokovic won the past two versions of the award.
UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid and UEFA European Championship victors Portugal are nominated in the Laureus World Team of the Year category.
In addition, Leicester City have been nominated for the Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year category, along with European football minnows Iceland following their heroics at Euro 2016.

In this category, Claudio Ranieri's side and Iceland will be up against South Africa's world record holder Wayde van Niekerk.
