Cristiano Ronaldo Goalless Since 24 July

Cristiano Ronaldo Goalless Since 24 July

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo usually scores goals for fun, but he has not found the back of the net since 24 July.

The 30-year-old drew consecutive blanks on national team duty with Portugal after failing to score in Real's first two La Liga games of the campaign.

Overall, Ronaldo has now failed to score in eight games this season and has only scored one goal since returning from his holidays.

He had already failed to score in pre-season matches against Roma, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Galatasaray, and sat out two games in the Audi Cup and a friendly against Valarenga because of a minor injury.

His last goal came in Real's second pre-season friendly, when Los Blancos thrashed Manchester City 4-1 on 24 July.

It's not the first time the Portuguese star has had a slow start to a season – he also failed to score in the first two league games of the 2010/11, 2012/13 and 2013/14 campaigns.

In all three of those seasons he found the net in the third La Liga fixture, and manager Rafael Benitez will be hoping the Real talisman can continue this trend against Espanyol on Saturday.

Los Blancos need Ronaldo's goals to compete in La Liga, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey.

This drought is very unusual for a player who averages more than one goal a game for the club.

With 313 goals in 302 appearances, Ronaldo is only 10 goals short of Real's top scorer of all time, Raul Gonzales.
