While he did not play in Inter Miami's 2-1 quarter-final first-leg loss to Monterrey in the Concacaf Champions Cup, the Argentine is understood to have been involved in a heated argument with the Mexican club's coaches.

Later, Audio was leaked of Monterrey assistant coach Nico Sanchez saying that "the dwarf was possessed" and that he "had the face of the devil".

He also took aim at Inter Miami head coach Gerardo Martino, whom he called "a poor dummy", and said the videos of the incident were "probably erased" as it makes representatives of the Herons look bad.

Sanchez has since apologised to Martino in a video posted on social media, but added that he will always defend his club.

"Since I do not know the Inter coach, Gerardo Martino, and I referred to him in a disrespectful manner, and I apologise," he said, according to the Irish Examiner.

"I am as Argentine as all of them and I will always defend my club. I'm here to show my face and take charge."

The assistant manager did not mention Messi by name in the video he released.
