Absent Lionel Messi Wins Big At LaLiga Awards

Lionel Messi was the main winner at the 2019 LaLiga awards gala, even though he did not attend the ceremony on Monday night.

The FC Barcelona superstar won the Pichichi award for the best goalscorer of the 2018/19 campaign, and was also named the best player of the season.

It was his sixth Pichichi prize after he scored 36 goals last season, while he was also named the best player for a sixth time.

Messi, though, did not attend the gala, but did send a word of thanks via a video message.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak won the Zamora trophy for the shot-stopper with most clean sheets in the league after managing to end 20 of his 37 appearances without conceding.

Celta Vigo's Iago Aspas collected the Telmo Zarra prize for the best Spanish goalscorer following his 20 strikes in 2018/19, while Athletic Bilbao's Inaki Williams won the award for the best goal of the season.

The accolade for the Coach of the Season was shared between Getafe's Jose Bordalas and Granada's Diego Martinez.
