Ten Hag has now seemingly identified the 30-year-old as the ideal back-up striker, as the club are light in that department following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Weghorst also caught the eye at the 2022 FIFA World Cup with the Netherlands after coming off the bench to net a late brace against Argentina in the quarter-finals.
Manchester Evening News reported that the Dutch striker appeared to wave goodbye to the Besiktas supporters after scoring in the 2-1 win over Kasimpasa on Saturday night.
However, Besiktas manager Senol Gunes did not seem to impressed with the apparent wave from his striker.
"For Weghorst to say goodbye, he not only has to greet the audience but also needs to talk to the club," Gunes said, as per Manchester Evening News.
"Nothing like that happened formally. I heard about the development but it's not clear yet."
