Reports suggest that Manchester United are lining up a bid to make an African superstar the most expensive signing in their history.
Ex-Downs Star 'Returns' To Al Ahly
The Red Devils recently signed Netherlands international Wout Weghorst from Burnley on loan for the rest of the campaign, and will be hoping the Dutchman's goals will help them clinch a UEFA Champions League spot for next season.
However, according to II Mattino, the record Premier League champions are already thinking of a more long-term solution to their striking problem.
United are said to be looking to bring Nigeria star Victor Osimhen to Old Trafford during the off-season as they look to reinforce their forward line with a big-money move.
The Napoli striker has been in sublime form for the Serie A table-toppers so far this season, having already found the back of the net 12 times in 14 matches for Gli Azzurri as he looks to help his club capture a league title for the first time in 33 years.
The Super Eagle was linked with a move to United in the previous transfer window, in a mooted deal that would have seen Cristiano Ronaldo move the other way to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, but the Lagos native ultimately stayed put in the south of Italy.
The same report suggests that Osimhen will likely only move for a fee in the region of £133 million (R2.7 billion), so if United are to successfully sign the west African, he could become the most expensive signing in the Premier League's history.

The attacker is also said to have requested that his representatives postpone all negotiations regarding his future until after the 2022/23 campaign, and given the large injection of cash the Mancunians will have should they qualify for Europe's premier club competition next season, a transfer for Osimhen may not be beyond the realms of possibility for the Red Devils.
