Jesse Lingard Explains His Poor Season

Jesse Lingard Explains His Poor Season

Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard, who contributed to just a single goal in the Premier League this season, has now explained what led to his long spell out of the team.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team managed a third-place finish in the league after a strong collective effort, although Lingard ended the campaign having featured for just 931 minutes.

The 27-year-old managed just a single goal contribution in the 2019/20 Premier League campaign, which came in the form of a goal in United's 2-0 away win over Leicester City on the final day, while he produced just three strikes and two assists across all competitions.

Speaking candidly in a recent interview, Lingard said he lost who he was as both a player and a person, but insisted he has never lost his passion for the club.

"I lost who I was as a player and person, but I never wanted to give up, I knew who I really was on and off the pitch and knew that having been there before I could get there again.

"This meant working harder than I'd ever done before and trusting in those around me that they knew how to best help me achieve that.

"I know the fans have been frustrated, but in all this time my love for this club and everyone connected to it has never left me.

"This team, this club is my family and I will continue to keep working harder than ever to help this team achieve its goals."

Lingard, who featured just twice in the league after football in England's top flight resumed in June, has been strongly linked with a move away from the Red Devils.
