Following Bruno Fernandes' impressive form for Manchester United since his arrival from Sport Lisbon, former Liverpool defender Abel Xavier is convinced the midfielder will become an Old Trafford legend.
The Portugal international's brace in United's 3-0 win over Brighton on Tuesday saw Ole Gunner Solskjaer's charges close the gap in the race for the top four, with the Manchester club now two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea with six league matches left to play.
Xavier, himself a former Portugal star, believes that it's only a matter of time before his compatriot forms part of the club's illustrious history.
"My view of Bruno (Fernandes) is that he is going to be one of the major players for Manchester United over the next years," the former Premier League centre-back said, as per Goal.com.
"The way he plays, the way he controls the moments of the game... I think, from what I know about the fans, they will love him for many years like they loved many legends from the past like Cristiano (Ronaldo), David Beckham, Rio Ferdinand, Eric Cantona, Paul Scholes – all these legendary players.
"Bruno I think will end up in this gallery of players."
The former Benfica man also feels that Fernandes' relationship with teammate Paul Pogba will only strengthen the Reds Devils.
"(Paul) Pogba is compatible with him because Bruno Fernandes is a clever player," he continued.
"He can adapt, he is flexible. I think he is a player who is very easy to manage for the coaches. Man United will be strong.
"We are not just talking about a great player, but a player with a lot of personality."
