There has seemingly been a massive update regarding the future of Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe, who was recently told by the club's owners that they "would never sell him".
With the 22-year-old France international's current contract expiring in June 2022, it appears that Mbappe's future will need to be resolved sooner rather than later, especially if the French giants are to hang on to him.
Earlier this month, when fielding questions regarding the forward, president Nasser Al-Khelaifi insisted the PSG forward will not be going anywhere in this transfer window nor in future ones, saying: "We're never going to sell him and he'll never leave for free."
RMC Sport journalist Daniel Riolo, however, believes Mbappe does want to leave the Ligue 1 giants as he does not believe in the club's project.
"I know that Mbappe asked to leave, but it is complicated because first you have to find a club that has the money to pay him, but the news is that he really does not want to stay," he said, according to Caught Offside.
"The player does not believe in (PSG sporting director) Leonardo's project. If he does not leave this summer, it will be for free next season. And in Doha they (PSG's owners) do not want to hear about it.
"If Mbappe expresses this desire to leave, it means that he will have to find a club and that PSG will need to look for a replacement.
"But yes, the news is that Mbappe does not want to stay at PSG."
Mbappe has been strongly linked with Real Madrid in recent seasons, while Liverpool have also been mentioned as a potential destination.
The attacker would likely command a price tag upwards of €150 million (R2.5 billion), although he would be able to walk away as a free agent at the end of next season should he not extend his deal in Paris.
