Edinson Cavani played a starring role as Paris Saint-Germain thrashed Rennes 4-1 in Ligue 1 on Sunday evening. PSG made the perfect start en-route to enlarging their runaway lead at the top through Cavani's seventh minute strike. Two minutes from the midway mark, Edison Cavani was given a chance to double PSG's lead but the Uruguayan flashed the opportunity wide of the post. After surviving the all of PSG's pressure, the visitors were level after M'Baye Niang finished off a loose ball from close range on 28 minutes. In the final minute of the half, an audacious overhead kick from Mbappe nearly rattled the back of the net but it strayed wide. The second half got off to a slow start for Thomas Tuchel's men, but Angel Di Maria restored parity with an exquisite dink over Koubek on the hour mark. Six minutes later, Mbappe was well positioned to turn home a cross from Draxler to put the seven-time champions firmly in the ascendancy. Cavani completed his brace and added PSG's fourth goal on 71 minutes with an easy finish from close range Rennes found it tough to deal with PSG's star-studded attack. The remaining stages of the half failed to provide any clear cut openings as the Ligue 1 leaders ran out comfortable winners on the night.
