Ligue 1 Report: Paris Saint-Germain v Olympique Lyon

Ligue 1 Report: Paris Saint-Germain v Olympique Lyon

Result: Paris Saint-Germain 0-1 Olympique Lyon

Date: 13 December 2020

Venue: Parc de Princes

Neymar was stretchered off late in the game as Paris Saint-Germain suffered a 1-0 loss to ten-man Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday night.

PSG made three changes from the big win over Istanbul Basaksehir in midweek, with Kylian Mbappe surprisingly benched, as Angel Di Maria, Abdou Diallo and Moise Kean were all recalled.

The game was open in the early stages but the sides were yet to carve out clear openings in the last third, with the visitors looking more dangerous.

The hosts were forced to make a substitution on the half-hour mark after centre-back Diallo sustained an injury and he was replaced by Thilo Kehrer.

Lyon started to cause problems after that and immediately after missing a sitter, Tino Kadewere eventually broke the deadlock for OL with a composed finish into the bottom corner after a through ball by Karl Toko Ekambi.

Thomas Tuchel's charges started to get into the game in the closing phase of the first stanza but they could not combine effectively in the last third and they went to the break trailing by an odd goal. As a result, Tuchel made a double change in the 65th minute as he brought on Mbappe and Ander Herrera in place of Di Maria and Marco Verratti.

However, Lyon were the most threatening side, as Lucas Paqueta came close to doubling the lead for Rudi Garcia's men two minutes later with a powerful drive from the edge of the box that was brillliantly saved by shot-stopper Keylor Navas in the bottom corner.

The visitors were threatening to kill off the game on counter-attacks in the closing phase, with PSG lacking their usual firepower and Bruno Guimaraes came close in the last minute but his shot was parried away by Navas.

Lyon ended the game with ten men after Thiago Mendes, who was initially handed a yellow card saw his card upgraded to red after the referee reviewed the incident on the Video Assistant Referee monitor, for a bad sliding challenge on Neymar's ankle.

In the end OL held on to the win and went up to second on the log, a point above the Parisians and equal on points with log leaders Lille but behind by virtue of an inferior goal difference.
