Ligue 1

Result: Olympique Lyon 2-1 Paris Saint-Germain

Date: 03 February 2019

Venue: Parc Olympique Lyonnais

Paris Saint-Germain, who were without Neymar, suffered their first defeat of the season in Ligue 1 after going down 2-1 to Olympique Lyon.

The visitors wasted no time in taking control when Angel Di Maria opened the scoring after just seven minutes with a neat finish after being picked out by Julian Draxler.

Lyon looked to hit back straight away, but they had to wait until the 20th minute when Memphis Depay picked out Bertrand Traore, whose close-range strike was saved by Alphonse Areola.

The hosts eventually restored parity on 33 minutes as an error from Areola allowed Moussa Dembele to sneak in and poke home from close range.

PSG nearly restored their lead just before the break when Di Maria's strike was impressively cleared off the line by Jason Denayer.

Three minutes into the second half, Lyon were awarded a penalty after Thiago Silva had brought down Dembele in the box. Nabil Fekir stepped up and sent his spot-kick to the left to put the home side ahead.

The visitors should have restored parity after 67 minutes when Di Maria turned provider to pick out Edinson Cavani, who steered his header straight at goalkeeper Anthony Lopes.

With PSG pushing for an equaliser, Thomas Tuchel threw on Cameroonian forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting for Cavani in the 79th minute.

Dembele had a chance to seal the win with five minutes remaining, but the Lyon forward was unable to fire home with only Alphonse to beat.

PSG were unable to carve out another opening in the final stages of the half as they were handed their first loss of the campaign.
