Ligue 1 Report: Lille v Paris Saint-Germain

Ligue 1 Report: Lille v Paris Saint-Germain

Result: Lille 0-0 Paris Saint-Germain

Date: 20 December 2020

Venue: Stade Pierre-Mauroy

Paris Saint-Germain missed the chance to go top of the French Ligue 1 table after they were held to a goalless draw by new leaders Lille on Sunday evening.

With Neymar already ruled out until January due to injury, Kylian Mbappe only started on the bench, with Angel Di Maria and Moise Kean leading the attack for PSG.

The sides were guarded in the early stages and Rafinha came the closest to breaking the deadlock for the visitors in the 25th minute with a powerful header that sailed wide of the post after lofted cross by Di Maria.

Di Maria had a chance to put Thomas Tuchel's charges ahead five minutes later with a free-kick just outside the box but his dipping effort missed slightly over the bar.

With the game was opening up in the closing phase of the first stanza, Kean came close to grabbing the lead for the Parisians just before the break with a cheeky back-heel that forced goalkeeper Mike Maignan into a fine save.

The game was there for the taking early in the second stanza and Yusuf Yazici thought he had snatched the lead for Lille eight minutes after the break with a fantastic finish but his goal was ruled out for offside.

The visitors were finding chances but were wasteful in attack, which promptd Tuchel to make a double change in the last 13 minutes, as he finally brought on Mbappe in place of Di Maria and Julian Draxler replaced Rafinha.

Even with the introducition of Mbbape and Draxler, neither side created clear chances as a result as they both settled for the share of the spoils, with Lille going to the top of the log while PSG remain in third place, just a point shy of top spot.
