With reports suggesting that Mauricio Pochettino's departure from Paris Saint-Germain is imminent, the Argentine tactician has spoken out regarding the intensifying rumours.
Since the conclusion of the 2021/22 Ligue 1 season, the rumour mill has been swirling fiercely. First, it was with regards to Kylian Mbappe and his future with Les Parisiens.
The 23-year-old, who, all season long, was linked with a move to Real Madrid, eventually decided to snub Los Blancos in favour of staying put in the French capital.
Now, it is Pochettino's fate that hangs in the balance at the Parc des Princes. Although the former Espanyol manager has been able to capture three titles during his time in France so far, he has been mainly judged by the team's performances in the UEFA Champions League.
During his first season in charge of Les Parisiens, the 50-year-old's men were knocked out by Manchester City at the semi-final stage of the 2020/21 edition of the competition, while they crumbled against eventual champions Real Madrid during the round of 16 stage in 2021/22.
Zinedine Zidane and Jose Mourinho have been linked with the PSG hot seat as a result, but Pochettino remains confident in his abilities to lead the team.
"I have one year left on my contract and there are a lot of rumours. Every week I am fired," he told Esport3.
"PSG arouses this kind of thing. The club is trying to reinvent itself. The president will soon explain his new project, but I'm calm.
"To get there (at PSG), you have to be a good coach and after a year and a half there, I feel like one of the best. To lead a locker room with so many stars was a daily learning experience.
"We were very close to knocking out Madrid, like Chelsea, City and Liverpool. We went through it. I think we were far superior, but we missed the finishing touch.
"If the objective is to win the Champions League, it is normal to generate this kind of storm."
