Robert Lewandowski In Shirt No. Debacle At Barcelona?

It is reported that new Barcelona signing Robert Lewandowski has found himself in a shirt number debacle following his arrival from Bayern Munich, with his preferred option currently taken.

Bayern Chief Reveals 'Dream' Lewa Replacement, It's Not CR7

The 33-year-old striker's transfer from the Bundesliga champions was confirmed at the weekend after a long saga that involved Bayern initially refusing to sell him.

After Lewandowski turned up for pre-season and held further discussions with the Bavarians' chiefs, his sale was eventually sanctioned and an agreement with the Blaugrana was struck at €45 million (R780 million).

The Catalan giants are yet to present the Poland international as a new Barca player amid reports suggesting the club, at the moment, cannot give him the shirt number they want him to wear.

Here is where Lewandowski ranks among the 12 highest-paid players at Barcelona:

According to Sport, the LaLiga side are aiming to hand Lewandowski the No. 9 jersey, which is currently occupied by Netherlands international Memphis Depay.

The former Manchester United and Olympique Lyon attacker, however, is strongly linked with a departure from Barcelona, with reports claiming Tottenham Hotspur are among several clubs monitoring his situation.

Barca, therefore, could hold out on announcing Lewandowski's shirt number upon his upcoming unveiling, and might only do so once the No. 9 jersey becomes available.
