Real Madrid To Give FC Barcelona Guard Of Honour In El Clasico?

Domestically, it has been a horrible season for Real Madrid, and it could get even worse for Los Blancos as the possibility of giving bitter rivals FC Barcelona a guard of honour in the next El Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu looms.

The defending champions are currently sitting in third place and a massive 15 points behind the Catalan giants, who reign at the top of LaLiga after going their first 29 games of the campaign unbeaten.

Real have already lost five matches this season, and have also been eliminated from the Copa del Rey, in which they will have to watch Barcelona take on Sevilla in the final.

With only nine games left to be played before the end of the season, the Blaugrana can mathematically secure the title before the two LaLiga giants face each other in the next El Clasico on 6 May.

The second El Clasico of the 2017/18 league campaign takes place with only two LaLiga games left to be played, and if Barcelona can maintain their 11-point lead over second-placed Atletico Madrid until then, Los Blancos could perform a guard of honour for the new champions.

As per Marca, this would not be the first time the topic of a guard of honour between the two sides has come up this season, with Barcelona having refused to give their rivals one during the first El Clasico of the campaign.

Real had just won the FIFA Club World Cup and felt they deserved a guard of honour at the Camp Nou, but the Blaugrana refused because they were not involved in the international tournament.

It would not be the first guard of honour in an El Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu – Real gave their rivals the honour back in 1991, when Johan Cruyff's "Dream Team" won their first LaLiga title.

Do you think Real players should give Barca a guard of honour if they are confirmed league champions by the time the next El Clasico comes around? Have your say in the comments section below.
