Reports suggest that Real Madrid have agreed a deal that will see them pay in excess of €100 million (R1.6 billion) for one of France's rising stars.
According to The Athletic, the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League winners have reached a verbal agreement with French side AS Monaco to sign highly-rated midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.
The 22-year-old has become one of the brightest prospects in world football over the past few years, and is now seemingly set to have the opportunity to showcase his talents at the highest level playing for the 14-time European champions.
Tchouameni, who came through the Bordeaux academy before making the move to the principality of Monaco in 2020, was a mainstay in the Monaco side that finished third in Ligue 1 this past season.
His performances in the middle of the park caught the attention of France national team coach Didier Deschamps, who first called the Rouen-native up in September 2021, and the player has already amassed 10 international caps since.
If the transfer is completed, Los Blancos will have beaten the likes of Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United to his signature, with the young Frenchman set to take his talents outside of France for the first time.
