The Catalan giants have now officially announced their acquisition of Marcos Alonso on a free transfer.

The 31-year-old returns to his native Spain to play in LaLiga for the first time with the Blaugrana.

While the Spaniard was expected to join the five-time European champions as part of the deal that saw Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang go to Chelsea, Alonso going to the Camp Nou is separate business, with the left-back having mutually terminated his contract with the Blues overnight.

The Spaniard's name had come up in discussions when Barca and the Blues were negotiating for the Gabonese striker, but Aubameyang moving back to London was a straight cash deal in the end.

With Alonso now a Blaugrana player, the attacking fullback follows in the footsteps of his father when he steps on to the pitch for Xavi Hernandez, with his father, Marcos Alonso Sr, having played for Barca from 1982 till 1987.
