Spanish giants FC Barcelona have somewhat surprisingly sacked coach Ernesto Valverde, and announced his successor early on Tuesday morning.

The Catalan giants' board met on Monday and decided to dismiss Valverde, who had been in charge since the beginning of the 2017/18 campaign and won two LaLiga titles, one Copa del Rey and one Spanish Super Cup during his reign.
Barca dismissed Valverde despite sitting at the top of LaLiga and having qualified for the UEFA Champions League knockout stages.

Valverde's last game in charge saw the Blaugrana lose 3-2 to Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup, with Barca winning just one of the past five games across all competitions.
Just hours after Valverde's dismissal, Barcelona announced that Quique Setien will take over the reins at the Camp Nou.

The 61-year-old, who was last in charge of Real Betis, has signed a contract that expires in June 2022, and will be presented to the public on Tuesday.
