The South African executive struck a new deal with TotalEnergies, which will see the petroleum conglomerate sponsor various CAF tournaments for the next three years.

African football's governing body and TotalEnergies first joined forces in 2016 in a deal reported to be worth $250 million (R4.6 billion) over eight years.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns chairman has now put pen to paper on a sponsorship deal that is shorter in duration but has more money attached to it, according to SABC Sport.

He revealed that while there may have been more lucrative offers from other interested parties, he felt no need to deviate from working with TotalEnergies due to the relationship they have built.

"It's not just the money, it's what TotalEnergies represents. It's what you represent, Patrick [Pouyanné] – he's correct in saying we were offered more money, but it's what we stand for," said the Tshwane native, as per SABC Sport.

"It's about what the partnership means for many more years to come, and TotalEnergies is an important company for Africa. That's why we decided to go with you, because it's not just about me.

"When I'm gone, and I'm not [CAF] president anymore, I'd like to see those who come after me continue working with TotalEnergies and what they stand for."
