Los Blancos qualified for the global tournament as winners of the UEFA Champions League, and will play the winner of the quarter-final between Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors and Club America.
Sundowns, meanwhile, face hosts Kashima Antlers in the other quarter-final, and would then have to overcome Atletico Nacional, winners of the Copa Libertadores, in the semi-final to set up a potential final with Zidane's side.
"The Club World Cup brings back a lot of good memories for me," the Frenchman said during a promotional event, as quoted by AS.
"We won a lot of things in Japan and it's a country where Madrid has a lot of – it's also a country where we would love to make history by winning something important.
"We have the chance to do that in this Club World Cup but first we have a game on Saturday to play and we are going to try to win both of those matches for all of the people who are behind this great club."
