Elias Mokwana's Esperance crashed out of the FIFA Club World Cup after losing 2-0 to Premier League giants Chelsea.
FIFA Club World Cup
Result: ES Tunis 0-3 Chelsea
Date: 25 June 2025
Venue: Lincoln Financial Field
Bafana Bafana star Mokwana kept his spot in the starting line-up after the win over Los Angeles FC, while the Blues kept faith with new signing Liam Delap at the top of the attack.
The Tunisian giants were holding their own for most of the first period and were doing well to frustrate the English side for most of the first half.
However, Esperance's resolve broke just before the halftime break when Tosin Adarabioyo opened the scoring for the Blues with a lovely header after getting on the end of Enzo Fernandez's free-kick.
The lead was doubled a couple minutes later when Liam Delap got his first goal for the Blues by collecting a pass from Fernanez and showing good composure to slot into the far corner.
Mokwana's time on the field only lasted 45 minutes, as the former Sekhukhune United star was replaced at the start of the second half by Mohamed Derbali.
The Tunisians did not provide that much threat in the second half despite making more changes as the stanza continued.
Enzo Maresca's men would go on to seal the win in second-half stoppage time as substitute Tyrique George found some space on the edge of the box and sent a low strike into the back of the net.
The win sees Chelsea finish second in the group while Flamengo secured top spot in Group D.
