The Portuguese could become only the sixth player in history to lift the trophy a third time – the others being Dani Alves, Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta, Gerard Pique and Lionel Messi – after winning it with Manchester United in 2008 and Real in 2014.

He has insisted he is not going to Japan for a holiday, and wants to lift the trophy in order to cap off his brilliant year.

"It is a big tournament and I have been lucky enough to win it twice before," he told AS.

"Of course, I want to win it for a third time. We are not going to Japan for a holiday.

"We go there with the sole aim of winning the title and to be crowned the best team in the world."
