This past weekend, it emerged that the 26-year-old France international is hoping to join the Ligue 1 champions ahead of the coming season.
The €50 million (R980 million) release clause in his contract expired as of Tuesday morning, however, meaning the French giants will need to find an alternative way to lure the winger from Spain.
Dembele is reportedly determined to make the switch, with it claimed he had formally asked the Catalan giants for permission to talk to PSG on Monday afternoon.
Behind the scenes, head coach Xavi is believed to have put in work in order to put Dembele off of wanting to join the Paris-based side, according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.
The publication claims the manager has reminded the winger of the apparent regrets Neymar has following his world-record transfer to the Ligue 1 club in 2017 in private conversation.

While the 31-year-old has amassed an incredible 195 goal contributions in 173 appearances for PSG, many feel the ex-Santos prodigy took a backwards step in his career in ditching Barca for the French team.
