According to Mundo Deportivo, the LALIGA champions are in talks with the Spaniard over an extension on his deal, with his current contract expiring next year.
While rumours this week claimed a full agreement had been reached, a new report suggests that Financial Fair Play issues are slowing the negotiation process down.
Xavi, 43, was said to have agreed to stay at the club until 2026, but economic problems to do the Spanish giants' salary limit could see the former midfielder commit to only two more years.
The ex-Spain international replaced Ronald Koeman as manager in November 2021, and has since taken charge of 94 matches across all competitions.
