Barca 'Identify' Lewandowski Replacement

Barca 'Identify' Lewandowski Replacement

As Robert Lewandowski approaches the latter stages of his career, Barcelona have reportedly identified the man they see as his long-term successor at the Camp Nou.

The 35-year-old Warsaw native won last season's Pichichi award, the accolade given to LALIGA's top goalscorer, but despite his evident threat in front of goal, the Spanish champions have reportedly found the man who could next lead the line for them.

According to Fichajes, Barca have identified Newcastle United's Alexander Isak as their desired striker for the next years to come.

The 23-year-old was one of the Spanish top flight's top marksmen during his days with Real Sociedad between 1019 and 2022, and it was his performances in the Basque country that earned him a €70 million (R1.4 billion) move to St James' Park at the beginning of last season.

Isak has already scored 12 goals and provided three assists for the Magpies since, but Blaugrana boss Xavi Hernandez seems to be keen to bring the Solna native back to LALIGA, this time to don the famous blue and red of the five-time European champions.

The same report claims that if Barca make a serious push for Isak, they would need to pay at least the club record fee Newcastle paid to Sociedad to sign him, a feat that may prove difficult given the Spanish club's continued rocky financial situation.

The 42-cap Sweden international is contracted to Tyneside until 2028, so Eddie Howe will be in no rush to sell his young star, but in the event that Barca's fiscal situation improves, there is the possibility Isak's head could turn.
