Nottingham Forrest 0-1 Liverpool

Liverpool advanced to the semi-finals of the FA Cup after edging past Championship side Nottingham Forrest on Sunday evening.

Naby Keita and Fabinho were recalled to the midfield, while Harvey Elliot and Roberto Firmino joined Diogo Jota in the attac as Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah were rested.

The Reds carve out the first opening as Firmino's instintive flick found Kostas Tsimikas, who took one touch before sending a dipping effort over the crossbar on 14 minutes.

Firmino should have broken the deadlock on 28 minutes when he was slipped through on goal, but his attempted lob was saved by Horvath before Forrest managed to clear.

Jurgen Klopp's men were in the ascendancy for most of the first half but were let down by their finishing, while the hosts were unable to force Alisson Becker into any saves.

Liverpool carried that momentum over to the second period but were once again stifled in the final third as Forrest were quite happy to sit back.

Klopp responded with a quadruple change after the hour mark, as Luis Diaz, Thiago Alcantra, Jordan Henderson and Takumi Minamino were introduced to shake things up.

The hosts squandered a glorious chance on 76 minutes when Zinckernagel slotted wide with only Alisson to beat, and they were made to pay two minutes later Tsimikas' cross found Jota, who turned home from six-yards out.

Southampton 1-4 Liverpool

Manchester City cruised to the semi-finals of the FA Cup with a 4-1 drubbing of Southampton at St Mary's Stadium on Sunday evening.

Man City made four changes to the side that was held by Crystal Palace in the league, as Ilkay Gundogan, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus were recalled while shot-stopper Zack Steffen was also given a run.

The Saints were unfortunate not to be ahead in the tenth minute after Adam Armstrong was denied by the post and City went ahead two minutes later from a possession turnover after Sterling went through on goal and slotted a strike past goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

The Citizens were also denied a two-goal cushion by the woodwork after a close-range strike by Joao Cancelo and Southampton levelled matters on the stroke of half-time after Aymeric Laporte deflected Mohamed Elyounoussi's cross into his own net.

The game continued to open up early in the second stanza and Pep Guardiola's charges were awarded a penalty on the hour-mark after Mohammed Salisu clipped down Jesus in the box and Kevin De Bruyne gave the visitors a 2-1 lead with a low strike under Forster.

With City comfortably leading, Guardiola threw on a couple changes as Fernandinho and Nathan Ake were given game time for the final stages of the second half.

Phil Foden, who replaced Jesus gave City a two-goal cushion 15 minutes before time with a smashing strike from a rebound in the box after the ball deflected into his path.

Riyad Mahrez rounded off the scoring for the visitors three minutes later with a strike into the bottom corner after a square pass by Gundogan, as they booked their spot in the semi-finals.
