FA Cup Report: Chelsea v Crystal Palace 17 April 2022

Chelsea advanced to the FA Cup final for a third straight season after defeating London rivals Crystal Palace 2-0 at Webley Stadium.

Result: Chelsea 2-0 Crystal Palace

Date: 17 April 2022

Venue: Stamford Bridge

Andreas Christensen and Jorginho were recalled at the expense of Thiago Silva and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, while Romelu Lukaku continued on the bench despite scoring in the last round.

The encounter was played at a lively pace in the early stages, but neither side were able to carve out any clear-cut chances in the opening 20 minutes.

Thomas Tuchel was forced into a change on 25 minutes as Ruben Loftus-Cheek was brought on in place of Mateo Kovacic, who picked up an injury.

The first half's only real opening arrived 10 minutes before the halftime break Palace midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate forced Edouard Mendy into superb saved before Joachim Anderson rattled the woodwork from the rebound.

With both sides struggling to find a breakthrough in the second half, Palace boss Patrick Vieira made the first change of the stanza as Jordan Ayew replaced Jean-Philippe Mateta.

The breakthrough arrived soon after but it was the Blues substitute who got the opener as Loftus-Cheek found the back of the net with a deflected volley after some sloppy play Tyrick Mitchell.

Chelsea went on to double their lead in the 76th minute as Mason Mount took a pass into his stride before taking one touch before slotting into the far corner.

Tuchel looked to re-shuffle the pack with one eye on Wednesday's clash against Arsenal, as N'Golo Kante, Hakim Ziyech and Thiago Silva replaced Jorginho, Mount and Christensen.

The Blues were able to see out the closing stages of the second half to secure the win and their spot in the final against Liverpool next month.
