FA Cup Report: Bournemouth v Arsenal 27 January 2020

Result: Bournemouth 1-2 Arsenal

Date: 27 January 2020

Venue: Vitality Stadium

Arsenal secured passage to the fifth round of the FA Cup after defeating Bournemouth 2-1 at the Vitality Stadium, with two of their starlets getting the goals.

Eddie Nketiah was handed his first Gunners start since returning from his loan spell at Leeds United, while Emiliano Martinez replaced Bernd Leno between the sticks.

The visitors got off to a superb start as Bukayo Saka opened the scoring after just five minutes with a powerful finish past Bournemouth Mark Travers at the near post.

While the Cherries struggled to find a way back in the contest, Mikel Arteta's troops managed to double their lead in the 25th minute as Saka turned provider to pick out Nketiah, who slotted home from six-yards out.

The hosts had to wait until the 38th minute for their first meaningful opening as Ryan Fraser's cross found Harry Wilson, who saw his first-time volley turned away by Martinez.

The start of the second half was disrupted by an injury to Shkodran Mustafi, who was stretchered off just before the hour mark after a collision with Martinez, who rushed off his line to thwart Dominic Solanke.

Bournemouth nearly pulled a goal back in the 68th minute when Martinez's poor clearance came off the head of defender Jack Simpson and sailed inches wide of his own goal.

The hosts did pull a goal back in the third minute of time added on through Sam Surridge's neat finish to set up a nervy finish, but the Gunners were all able to see out the remaining five minutes to secure a spot in the next round.
