Pep Guardiola opted start both Erling Haaland and Omar Marmoush while Jeremy Doku and Savinho were also handed starts, with Phil Foden left on the bench.
City nearly grabbed an early goal when Kevin de Bruyne did well to pick out Haaland in the box, but the striker saw his volley brilliantly turned away by Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson.
However, Palace took the lead with the first real break on 16 minutes when Daniel Munoz broke free down the right before pulling the ball back for Eberechi Eze, who fired home with a first-time finish.
The Cityzens were afforded the chance to pull level on 33 minutes after being awarded a penalty for Mitchell's foul on Bernardo Silva. Omar Marmoush took responsibility but saw his spot-kick saved by Henderson.
While City struggled to carve out chances, Palace had the ball in the back of the net for a second time when Munoz fired home from close range, but the celebrations counted for nothing as the goal was ruled out by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for an offside in the build-up.
Guardiola responded with a double change as Marmoush and Savinho made way for Foden and 19-year-old Claudio Echeverri, who was making his debut for the Manchester outfit.
The changes nearly paid off as De Bruyne played in Echeverri with a first-time pass on 82 minutes, but the young Argentine midfielder saw his strike saved Henderson from eight yards out.
The Eagles were able to see out the closing stages in the final stages to claim their first majour on honor in their 119 year club history.
