Xabi Alonso Names One Of His Best Ever Teammates

Bayern Munich star midfielder Xabi Alonso named Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard as one of his best ever teammates.

The Spaniard recalled his time at Liverpool, when Gerrard influenced the side with several great performances – saying that the Englishman was somebody he loved to play with.

"It was so inspirational," he told Liverpool's official website.

"When Stevie was on your side you knew that he could have those magic moments that we enjoyed.

"I remember the goal against Olympiacos [2004-05 Champions League group stage] or the FA Cup final goal against West Ham that came out of nothing.

"I remember in the last years, the connection that he had with Fernando Torres was vital for us.

"For me, he's been one of the players that I most enjoyed playing alongside."

Alonso played with Gerrard for five seasons, with the 2005 Champions League final win against AC Milan being one of the highlights of his spell with the English side.

In his career, with clubs like Real Madrid, Liverpool and Bayern Munich, Alonso has won the Champions League twice, the La Liga once, the Bundesliga once, the FA Cup once, and the Copa del Rey twice.
