Premier League giants Manchester United have been linked with a surprise £75million for an English top-flight star.
The Red Devils will be under new management next season when Ajax Amsterdam coach Erik ten Hag takes over after signing a three-year deal.
The Dutch tactician is expected to revamp the squad ahead of the new season and one of the positions he will address is the midfield.
The are already expected to lose Nemanja Matic when his contract expires in June, while it remains to be seen if Paul Pogba will extend his stay beyond this season.
According to The Sun, the Red Devils considering a move for Southampton and England international James Ward-Prowse for the 2022/23 season.
United have been linked with West United's Declan Rice in recent months, but the report claims Ward-Prowse would be available at £75million compared to Rice's price tag of £150million.
The Sun also added that the 27-year-old midfielder is rated higly by the incoming Ten Hag, while some at Unietd feel he can also play as a holding midfielder.
Ward-Prowse has also been linked United's rivals Manchester City who are looking for a replacement for Fernandinho, who is likely to leave at the end the campaign.
