Liverpool climbed to fifth spot on the Premier League table after defeating Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 on Sunday evening.

Result: Liverpool 4-3 Tottenham Hotspur

Date: 30 April 2023

Venue: Anfield

Jurgen Klopp handed a league start Luis Diaz for the first time since October, while Ibrahim Konate and Curtis Jones were also restored to the line-up.

The Reds opened the scoring on two minute when Trent Alexander-Arnold picked out an un-marked Curtis Jones, who calmly slotted home from close range.

The lead was doubled two minutes later when Cody Gakpo got in behind the defence before picking out Diaz, who volleyed home at the near post to leave the visitors shell-shocked.

With 15 minutes gone, Jurgen Klopp's men were awarded a penalty for Cristian Romero's clumsy challenge on Gakpo. Salah stepped up and calmly slotted down the middle to make it 3-0 to the hosts.

In a rare foray forward, Spurs pulled one back in the 39th minute as Ivan Perisic left Virgil van Dijk for dead before picking out Harry Kane, who volleyed home from close range.

The visitors finished the first half the stronger of the two sides and they carried that momentum into the second when Son was denied by the frame of the goal in the 54th minute.

Klopp responded with a double change after the hour mark, as Jordan Henderson and Diogo Jota replaced Harvey Elliot and Diaz, while Spurs threw on Pape Sarr a few minutes later.

There would be a nervy finish at Anfield when Son got his reward on 77 minutes by getting on the end of Romero's ball over the top before slotting past Alisson.

With Liverpool seemingly heading for the win, Spurs got back on level terms in the 93rd minute when Richarlison nodded home a free-kick with his first league goal for Spurs.

However, the Reds had the final say when a horrible back pass from Lucas Moura was pounced on by Jota, who took one touch before firing into the far corner to seal a dramatic win.
