Mohamed Salah bagged a brace as Liverpool climbed to second spot on the Premier League table with a 3-0 victory over Brentford.

Result: Liverpool 3-0 Brentford

Date: 12 November 2023

Venue: Anfield

Jurgen Klopp made four changes from the side that drew with Luton Town, as Kostas Tsimikas,  Wataru Endo, Cody Gakpo and Joel Matip have all been restored to the line-up.

The Reds have dominated in the early stages but they nearly fell behind on 18 minutes when Mbuemo pounced on an error from Trent Alexander-Arnold, but he sent his effort over Alisson Becker's goal.

Liverpool had the ball in the back of the net four minutes later when Darwin Nunez fired past goalkeeper Mark Flekken, but the strike was ruled out after the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) spotted an offside.

The visitors should have taken the lead in the 32nd minute Mbeumo was played through on goal but the Brentford tried to lob Alisson but saw his effort tipped away by the Liverpool shot-stopper.

Brentford were made to rue that miss, as Mohamed Salah opened the scoring five minutes before the break after sliding a neat finish into the bottom corner after being teed up by Nunez.

The Reds carried that momentum into the second half and they managed to bag a second goal in the 62nd minute, with Salah completing his brace by turning home a cross from Tsimikas and bringing up his 200th goal in English football.

The third goal arrived with 15 minutes left on the clock as Diogo Jota collected a pass from Tsimikas before finding the back of the net with a powerful strike from distance, making it two goals in two games this week.

Klopp's charges, however, were not troubled in the latter stages of the second period as three goals were enough to get the job done, sending the side up to second spot on the table.
