Premier League Report: Leeds United v Liverpool 12 September 2021

Premier League Report: Leeds United v Liverpool 12 September 2021

Liverpool maintained their unbeaten start to the Premier League season after defeating Leeds United 3-0, with Mohamed Salah scoring his 100th league goal on Sunday evening.

Result: Leeds United 0-3 Liverpool

Date: 12 September 2021

Venue: Elland Road

Jurgen Klopp made two changes from the draw with Chelsea as Diogo Jota and Thiago Alcantara replaced Roberto Firmino and Jordan Henderson.

The visitors looked lively in the early stages, but struggled with the final ball in and around the final third as Leeds were happy to sit back and soak up the pressure.

The Reds eventually got the breakthrough in the 20th minute as a patient build-up ended with Trent Alexander-Arnold picking out Salah who slotted home his 100th league goal.

Leeds struggled to mount any attacks as the half went on and they were forced into a change with 10 minutes left in the half as defender Diego Llorente was forced off with an injury and replaced by Pascal Struijk.

Marcelo Bielsa made another switch at the start of the second half as Tyler Roberts replaced Rodrigo in the attack as they went in search of an equaliser.

However, it was the Reds who got the next goal seven minutes after the restart as Fabinho got his name on the scoresheet with a smashing finish after his initial effort was blocked.

There was a sad moment for the visitors on the hour mark when Harvey Elliot had to be stretchered after horrible challenge by Struijk, who was shown a straight red card.

The Reds should have had a couple more goals in the closing stages but Sadio Mane squandered two golden chances in the box, while Patrick Bamford nearly caught out Alisson from 40-yards out.

Mane did make up for his earlier misses in the 92nd minute with a neat sweeping finish into the bottom corner after being picked out by Thiago.
