Chelsea registered a 3-2 win over Newcastle United in Premier League action on Monday night.

Result: Chelsea 3-2 Newcastle United

Date: 11 March 2024

Venue: Stamford Bridge

Coach Mauricio Pochettino recalled Raheem Sterling to the Blues line-up, while Marc Cucurella came in for Ben Chilwell, who missed out through injury.

The Blues got off to the perfect start when Senegalese forward Nicolas Jackson showed quick reaction to turn home Cole Palmer's shot with a lovely flick.

The visiting side, meanwhile,  struggled to get their regular game going in the first half and struggled to carve out chances Aleksander Isak, who cut a frustrated figure at times.

That all changed three minutes before the halftime break when Isak showed great control to take a pass from Bruno Guimaraes before carving a yard of space and curling one into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

The second half was a lot more livelier as Chelsea restored their lead in the 57th minute as Palmer added his name to the score-sheet with a lovely drilled effort from the edge of the box.

Both sides opted for changes soon after that as Chelsea introduced Mykhailo Mudryk for Sterling, while Newcastle threw on Elliot Anderson and Emil Krafth for the final 20 minutes.

Mudryk made his presence felt almost immediately when he intercepted a pass from Conor Gallagher before rounding the goalkeeper to slot into an empty net, handing Chelsea a two-goal advantage with 13 minutes to play.

Newcastle did pull a goal back in the 90th minute when Jacob Murphy outmuscled Cucurella before sending a powerful strike by goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, but the Blues were able to see out the six minutes of time added on to claim the win.
