Arsenal cemented top spot in the Premier League after defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 on Saturday evening.

Result: Arsenal 2-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Venue: Emirates Stadium

Coach Mikel Arteta made just one change from the Gunners' big win over RC Lens midweek, as Kai Havertz made way Leandro Trossard as they looked to cement top spot for another week.

The Gunners got off to the perfect start when Bukayo Saka combined with Gabriel Jesus and Takehiro Tomiyasu in the box before firing into the far corner for his fifth league goal of the season.

The lead was doubled seven minutes later when a superb passing move ended with Oleksandr Zinchenko picking out Martin Odegaard, who sent a first-time finish into the bottom corner from 12 yards.

Wolves were dealt a blow at the midway point as goalkeeper Jose Sa was unable to continue due to an apparent back injury and was replaced by Dan Bentley.

It was one-way traffic in the first half but the Gunners were unlucky not to have added a third goal ten minutes before the break when Gabriel Martinelli saw his low strike crash against the upright.

Wolves were a bit more lively after the halftime break and managed to register a serious effort on goal ten minutes in, with goalkeeper David Raya called upon to keep out Mathues Cunha's powerful strike.

Arteta opted for a double substitution soon after that, Gabriel Jesus made way for Eddie Nketiah before Havertz replaced Martinelli for the final stages of the second half.

Wolves did pull a goal back in the 85th minute as Zinchenko's error presented the ball to Cunha, who cut onto his left foot and sent a superb strike into the top corner from the edge of the box.

The Gunners nearly bagged a third goal a minute later when Nketiah hit the upright, but the two goals were enough to seal three points for the home side.
