In an intriguing development, the English Football Association (FA) is reportedly eyeing Guardiola as a potential successor to Gareth Southgate.
With Guardiola's contract at Manchester City set to expire at the end of the season, The Times has revealed that the FA made informal overtures to the City boss at the beginning of the season, although they are still awaiting a response.
Legendary former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane has thrown his support behind the idea, urging the FA to make the move for Guardiola.
Speaking as a pundit for ITV following England's impressive 3-1 victory over Finland, Keane stated: "Go for the best. Pep's contract is up in the summer."
Guardiola himself remains non-committal about his future. In a recent interview with Italian TV show Che Tempo Che Fa, he stated: "Leaving City? It's not true, I haven't decided yet. And it is not even true that I will be the next England coach. If I had decided, I would say it… I don't know either, anything can happen."
Since taking the reins at the Etihad in 2016, Guardiola has enjoyed immense success, clinching six Premier League titles – including four in a row – and a UEFA Champions League trophy.
If he were to become available, he would undoubtedly be the standout candidate for the England job.
However, former Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel remains the bookmakers' favourite for the position.
As for now, England U21s manager Lee Carsley is set to lead the national team in the final round of UEFA Nations League group matches next month.
Carsley has had a solid start, securing three wins and one defeat since stepping in after Gareth Southgate's resignation.
