The England international was reportedly close to joining Bayern Munich in the last transfer window, but eventually opted to stay at the Etihad.
At the age of 33, Walker remains one of the best full-backs in Europe but Guardiola has cast his eyes on Chelsea's Reece James a potential long-term successor.
According to the Independent, James has been 'earmarked' by the Premier League champions as the player to succeed Walker at the Etihad.
The report also adds that the 23-year-old's name also popped up in conversations in the last transfer window, as Walker's future was uncertain before he signed the new three-year deal.
It remains to be seen if James would leave the Blues, especially after he was made club captain by Mauricio Pochettino at the start of the season.
Reports in Spain claim that England full-back also remains a target for Real Madrid, who are looking for a long-term successor for Dani Carvajal.
