Result: Arsenal 1-2 Swansea City
Date: 02 March 2016
Venue: Emirates Stadium
Ashley Williams' second-half strike earned Swansea City a crucial three points in their 2-1 win over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
The hosts were quick out the starting blocks, doing well to put together some lovely passing moves. The Gunners almost took the lead as early as the 11th minute when Alexis Sanchez slapped his effort against the far post.
They did not have to wait too long to break the deadlock though, as Joel Campbell put them ahead four minutes later, 1-0. The goal seemed to motivate the hosts even more as they continued to push forward for another.
Swansea threatened the Arsenal goal for the first time in the 26th minute as Leroy Fer's curling effort from 25 yards whistled just over the bar. Five minutes later, The Swans were back on level terms as Wayne Routledge converted a 32nd minute strike.
The home side then upped the tempo in an effort to get back into the lead, and should have gone ahead just before the break when Olivier Giroud's 41st minute volley crashed back off the woodwork.
The visiting outfit had a promising start to the second stanza, but it was Arsenal who almost grabbed a goal in the 57th minute when Sanchez had his shot well cleared by Ashley Williams.
Swansea should have taken the lead 10 minutes later, after Gylfi Sigurdsson surged past Per Mertesacker into the box, rounded Petr Cech, and then went for too much power, pulling his effort wide from a tight angle.
Three minutes later, Sanchez rattled the woodwork for the third time in this encounter. The Gunners were made to rue their missed chances even more when Williams rocked up to put Swansea in the lead with a 74th minute strike, 2-1.
Arsene Wenger's charges added numbers into their attacks, but the visitors were looking more determined than ever to hold onto their slender lead. They did just that as the referee finally signalled for full-time, much to the disappointment of the home fans.
