David Luiz Sets Unwanted Record

Arsenal defender David Luiz set an unwanted record during the Gunners' 3-2 win over relegated Watford on the weekend.

Having been on the end of much criticism following some shaky and inconsistent performances since joining from Chelsea in August 2019, the Brazilian has now become the first player in Premier League history to concede five penalties in a single season, according to talkSPORT.

The 33-year-old did receive some praise after an impressive display against Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals last weekend, helping the London-based side reach the final, but his penchant for rash decision-making crept up on him once again when he fouled Danny Welbeck at the Emirates on Sunday evening.

In fact, the former Benfica man singlehandedly gave away more spot-kicks in the 2019/20 Premier League campaign than 10 – Southampton, Manchester City, Manchester United, Sheffield United, Brighton, Chelsea, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Newcastle United, Crystal Palace, and Liverpool – did.

During his two spells with Chelsea, Luiz gave away only three penalties in 160 league appearances.
