Manchester United and Everton played out a goalless draw in Wayne Rooney's testimonial at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.
The first opening of the game arrived after 24 minutes as Rooney slipped in Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who forced Maarten Stekelenburg into routine save.
David De Gea was called into action in the 31st minute, as the Red Devils goalkeeper produced a fine reflex save to keep out Ross Barkley's close range effort.
Stekelenburg frustrated United once again in the 42nd minute, as the Dutch shot-stopper was well-positioned to deal with Ibrahimovic's effort from six-yards.
Romelu Lukaku should have broken the deadlock just before the break, but the Belgian headed wide of De Gea's upright from six-yards out.
Jose Mourinho made a host of changes at the start of the second half, introducing the likes Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marouane Fellaini and Morgan Schneiderlin.
Everton carved out another clear-cut chance in the 52nd minute when Kevin Mirallas was left un-marked at the far post, but the Belgian could only fire into the side-netting.
The Red Devils' first real opening in the second half arrived after 76 minutes when Fellaini met Juan Mata's corner, but his header was easliy dealt with by substitute goalkeeper, Joel Robles.
Mourinho's charges pushed for a winning goal in the closing stages, but they were unable to carve out any clear-cut chances, as the game ended goalless.
United will now shift their focus to Sunday's Community Shield clash against Leicester City at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
