It was reported that the Spanish manager and Chelsea's owner, Roman Abramovich, met in 2012 - where the former Barcelona boss insisted that if he was to take on the managerial role at Stamford Bridge, he would require stability.
Pep Guardiola reportedly demanded these terms, as Chelsea's track record with managers had not been one of consistency, with Jose Mourinho, Avram Grant, Luiz Felipe Scolari, Carlo Ancelotti and Andre Villas-Boas having all come and gone.
It was believed that in 2012, because Chelsea's owner was so confident Guardiola would take over the role as manager from Roberto Di Matteo, players were brought in to get the Spanish coach's reign underway.
Eden Hazard was signed from Lille for £32 million, and Oscar was brought in from Internacional for £25 million, as well as Marko Marin signing from Werder Bremen for £7 million.
The Daily Mail reported that Guardiola was then scared out of the deal just days before agreeing terms, after Di Matteo was sacked as manager - although he had won the Champions League trophy with the club.
Guardiola then decided to succeed Jupp Heynckes at Bayern Munich, as the Bavarians reportedly promised him stability and gave him their full backing.
Chelsea then went with Rafael Benitez as their last option, and after the former Liverpool boss failed to win over the Stamford Bridge faithful, they re-hired Jose Mourinho in 2013.
