Central defence has been an issue for Los Blancos in recent seasons. While the Spanish and European champions do boast the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Eder Militao and David Alaba among their ranks in the position, they have often been plagued by injuries, forcing manager Carlo Ancelotti to often be creative in finding solutions when any of the aforementioned stars were sidelined.
Now, it seems that Los Merengues want to be find a long-term solution to their defensive issues and are said to have identified William Saliba as a target for the next off-season's transfer window.
Since Mikel Arteta inserted the Frenchman into his starting XI, the 23-year-old has been an ever-present for the Gunners and has thrived for both club and country.
Real are now hoping they can lure the Paris native to the Santiago Bernabeu, but according to the Daily Express, Arsenal are confident of keeping their star defender and plan to reject any offer that may come in for the former Saint-Etienne man.
Saliba signed an extension at the Emirates Stadium just last year, which will keep him in the English capital until 2027, so any offer from the record UEFA Champions League winners would need to be astronomical if they are to tempt the Premier League giants into selling.
